Joe Borg

Joe joined Fipra as a Special Adviser in August 2010, having previously served as the EU Commissioner for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries (November 2004 - February 2010). Joe joined the College of Commissioners after a distinguished political career in Malta, where he was elected to the House of Representatives (1995-2004, Nationalist Party), and served as the Minister for Foreign Affairs (1999 - 2004). In this capacity Joe directed the negotiations for Malta's accession to the EU. Previously he had also served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Central Bank of Malta (1992 - 1995). Joe is a Doctor of Law (LL.D) from the University of Malta and has a Masters Degree (LL.M) from the University College of Wales. Joe has authored a number of academic publications and continues to lecture at the University. Joe is married to Isabelle, and they have two grown children. Joe is fluent in English, Italian and Maltese.
