John Bowis OBE, joined FIPRA as Special Adviser for Health and Environmental Policy in June 2009. John is a former MEP and Member of British Parliament.
After graduating from Oxford University, John worked as a Councillor, Chairman of Education and later became MP for Battersea . He went on to serve two terms in the UK government as Minister for Health (1992-1996) and Minister for Transport (1996-1997), after which he worked for the World Health Organisation.
John has received an OBE and is an Honorary Fellow of Royal College of Psychiatrists. He has also been an international policy adviser to the World Health Organisation’s collaborating centre at the Institute of Psychiatry in London.
